Role of Syzygium aromaticum (lavang/laung/clove) in pain management

The essential oil of Syzygium aromaticum, commonly called lavang or laung or Clove is Eugenol. It has analgesic /anodyne activity. Its pain relieving property may be related with its anaesthetizing property. It desensitizes the region where it is applied. As a component of Zusage pain oil, it is applied topically over the region of pain and due to the presence of lavang, the area will be desensitized; thus offering the relief from pain. It also has counter-irritant effect.
